Trying Indian Recipes at Home: Shrimp Tikka Masala

If you’ve never had Indian food, you’re missing out on a lot of really unique tastes! A lot of folks are unfamiliar with it, and some are downright scared of it, so “cooking” it is usually out of the question, much less braving an actual restaurant.  Today’s blog features a really easy way to try it at home without all the fright.  Since it’s getting so accessible in the grocery stores, you can just as easily try a new ready-made sauce down the Indian aisle as you can a marinara from the Italian aisle!  Lucky for you, I just tried one that is super-tasty.  I plan on trying more – so I will keep you posted with reviews!

Tikka Masala Sauce is pretty common in the Indian aisle of your grocery store.

The recipe I meant to cook contained garam masala, a blend of spices widely used in Indian foods ~ Peppercorns, cloves, malabar, mace, cumin, cardamom, nutmeg, anise, and coriander.  I assumed my big grocery store would have it, but I was wrong.  So I got creative, and the recipe actually turned out even easier than it was from the start! In the absence of garam masala, extra time, and the gumption to make it/find the missing rare ingredients, I chose to buy a sauce from the Indian part of the grocery story – “Tikka Masala.”  It is tomato/lemon-based, and it contains all the spices I knew were in garam masala.  The best part…..the sauce was already made! This dish is fresh-tasting, flavorful, healthy, gluten-free, and FAST!
