Taco Bell Changes, Doritos Locos Taco Review & Rant

So it’s been one of those weeks.  ….Make that two weeks……Where I have practically lived in my car, gone to bed at midnight or later, and eaten meals that came through a window.  It’s hard to find the “bright moments” when you get busy, but I found one recently – wrapped up in one of those “through-the-window” meals!

Taco Bell has decided it would be a good idea to take a Dorito & turn it into a taco shell.  I’ll be honest, the first try I had – was unsuccessful.  It tasted like a knock-off Dorito that didn’t have enough stuffing.  I recently gave it another chance when grabbing a quick bite & changed my mind……not just about the taco – but about Taco Bell as a whole!

The Doritos Locos Taco (I chose supreme) has just the right amount of flavor – not too much Dorito & way more flavor than a hard shell (which I never get because they don’t have taste to me). They come in a nice packaging so you can slide it out without getting covered in orange powder, exposing the fact that you just ate at Taco Bell.

Hey! What’s wrong with Taco Bell?  In a world where we are constantly looking for healthy food options, they have always had some good things to consider.  They have gutted the menu – erasing some of my favorites & downsizing my choices.  Am I upset?  Well not terribly.  Basically, I had to choose the non-fried Gordita over the chalupa.  No Baja sauce = I can choose from several new sauces they offer – that are salsa-like and less fattening.  & the Doritos Locos Taco is still less fattening than previous options.  I do miss the Ranchero Chicken Soft Tacos…………

I don’t know where all the change has come from, because in my experience – Taco Bell folks go there, because they’ve got a favorite thing on the menu.  I have deviated off my “usual” at other restaurants, but Taco Bell is one of those restaurants that provides crave-worthy,  already fairly healthy, fresh ingredients packed with flavor.

Oh Well, I guess we’ll see if the change is worth it or if they’ll end up like Taco Johns.
