Raspberry Fireball Hot Toddy & “Hot Toddy Soup”

Raspberry Fireball Hot Toddy & “Hot Toddy Soup”

January is National Hot Tea Month AND National Soup Month!  It’s not surprising, because when folks catch a cold, sore throat, and/or cough during this time of the year,  those are the first foods/drinks they think of when the “funk” hits.  I’m sharing original recipes today that fit the bill for BOTH!  If someone is sick in your house or you are interested in warming up your body to ward off sickness, try these today!  It worked for my Granny who played doctor using home remedies like these on a husband, 4 kids, & 9 grandchildren!

January 11th was National Hot Toddy Day, and I celebrated with a sweet, original concoction that certainly warmed my core. My mother celebrated  with something that is completely different with a host of beneficial ingredients…..a savory toddy! No matter how you create yours, hot toddies are known throughout the world to soothe the throat, ease congestion, & aid in needed rest when you need it the most. Below are some tips on how to create your OWN toddies!

How to make a Hot Toddy:

~Caffeine-free tea is best, because you’re probably going to bed after you sip it.

~ Teas that already have helpful immune-system boosters such as Echinacea and ginger are great additions!

~Whisky and brandy are the most popular, but any “warming” liquor will do.

~Don’t overdo it – two much alcohol when you’re sick can actually defeat the purpose & slow down your immune system.

~”Fixin’s” such as citrus slices, honey, cinnamon sticks, etc. are just as beneficial as they are tasty!

~ Sweeteners & sugar usually not needed, so skip that step if you can!

~Run with it!  Have a get-together with friends & share beverage recipes!  Figure out what YOU like!

Raspberry Blaze:

1 cup of freshly brewed Raspberry Tea

Fireball Cinnamon-Infused Whiskey

Lemon Slice

Idea: Serve this cold in the summer for a refreshing shot recipe! ….. with a little kick!

Momma Joyce’s Savory Hot Toddy Soup

Disclaimer: If you are from the South & are not a fan of “doodle soup,” this is a bit like that….. so change what you want.  I changed it with wine, and added less vinegar. This recipe has apple cider vinegar, hot pepper, omega 3 (eggs), & chicken broth – ALL are good for a healthy body!

***Also, I made this…. & the next night it was way better.  So maybe make it the day before?  Or Crock it!

4 boiled eggs, chopped

3-4 chicken breasts

2 TBS Oil

1 1/4 cup + 1 TBS White Wine

2 cups chicken broth

4 TBS Butter

2 TBS Catsup

1 Cup Water

1/4 cup apple cider vinegar (You can always add more….but you can’t take it away….)

1 tsp crushed red pepper….cayenne…. do what you need to do

salt as needed

  1. Start boiling the eggs.
  2. Cook chicken breasts in skillet with oil – non-stick pan. Slightly Brown on top… & done….
  3. Place chicken on plate, chop it, shred it – whatever you want(I like torn/shredded);  sprinkle with 1 TBS wine
  4. Deglaze pan with 1 cup wine (put it in there & scratch off the bits with a spatula)
  5. Add  water, broth, vinegar, butter, catsup, pepper, and the chicken
  6. Bring to a boil
  7. Simmer 5-10 minutes
  8. Add the eggs last. Serve steamin’ hot!  You can also add biscuits & apple slaw (or a salad) to make a tasty & comforting meal that will clear out your sinuses, soothe your throat, and warm you from the inside out!
