Quick & Easy Baked Ziti Recipes: “Sloppy Joe Ziti”

Our winter menus are usually full of crockpot recipes, soups, stews, etc.   Here’s a hearty supper idea that is a unique twist on the old favorite “Sloppy Joe” recipe! Tip: Buy name brand sausage – & locally if you can.  Because of the nature of “sausage”, you need to know what’s in it. You might want to go with “hot” sausage if you like spicy dishes!

 

“Sloppy Joe Ziti”

1   box of ziti noodles  (or penne, or macaroni…)

1   lb. lean ground beef

½  lb. pork sausage (1/2 of the log)

1        med. Onion

2        bell pepper

3        tablespoon brown sugar

1        8oz. can tomato sauce

½      cup ketchup

2        tablespoons Worchestershire Sauce

2        tablespoons mustard (from the bottle, any kind!)

1        tablespoon red wine vinegar

+ 1 pinch  salt, pepper, red pepper flakes

*Shredded cheddar cheese for topping

  1. Boil/drain the noodles according to package & set aside.
  2. Brown beef, sausage, onions, & bell pepper; Drain.
  3. Add all other ingredients
  4. Bring to boil; Turn down to low & simmer for 15 minutes; Preheat Broiler!
  5. Add noodles to pan & coat well.

6.   Sprinkle with cheddar cheese & broil until cheese is melted!
