It’s Getting Cooler Outside! Hot Brown Sugar Oatmeal & Bacon

Breakfast was an event at my house growing up.  I always ate breakfast at the table, and Momma always found a way to make it interesting – even if it was cereal.  This is one of the breakfasts we always ate when the weather was cool or downright freezing!  The sweet of the brown sugar & the salt of the bacon made a delicious meal that “sticks to your bones.”  Serve pipin’ hot with juice and a hot tea like Earl Grey or Irish Breakfast Tea….. comfort food! It’s flavorful, not too heavy and fatty, and fills you up!

This is with instant plain oatmeal – 1.5 min. or so in the microwave with a tab of butter – & water.  Oatmeal is good for your heart – & fat free.  We used about 1 tbs brown sugar per serving – on top, so you get a little taste of the syrup in each bite.

Occasionally, sliced apples & cinnamon – or any fixin’ you want – can be added! Plain oats with fixin’s have way less sugar…..
