Keep Calm And….. Pie?

Keep Calm And….. Pie?

I haven’t blogged in a while, and that fact is the basis of today’s blog.  As I type, I am seeing a reflection in the computer screen, and there are lovely little lines between my eyes on my forehead…… because I am thinking.  It’s my thinking face.  I learned that thinking face from my Momma & my Granny.  I am smoothing it out now & trying to consciously get rid of them physically & emotionally – - – I must have a lot on my mind. This happens, doesn’t it?  Especially to women, I think.  (SEE!  THE THINKING!)  Thinking is obviously not a bad thing,  but I think it’s the “over-analyzing” that’s toxic.  I think the very definition of “Over-analyzing” is exactly...

What are Creepers?

What are Creepers?

I recently went to purchase baby diapers for a baby shower & found myself standing in the middle of the diaper aisle staring at sizes that didn’t make any sense in prices that seemed overwhelmingly high.  After about 2 minutes of trying on my own to find the right thing, I enlisted the help of some nearby newborn parents who had their sleeping bundle of joy wrapped up & placed in one of those giant toy car buggies.  “My friend is having a baby – what should I get?” I said.  “You’re going to want to get  N for newborn,” replied the mother.  I said, “Won’t they grow out of those pretty quickly?”  She told me the box I picked up wouldn’t even last them a week.  Then the husband who...

Outdoor Pests: My Grandfather the Bug Zapper

Outdoor Pests: My Grandfather the Bug Zapper

Because we didn’t have that much of a winter in the South, there are bugs EVERYWHERE I look this summer.  My dog even barked at a mosquito the other day, because he’d finally had enough!  I recently bought some materials to try a bug deterring project (coming soon!), and whilst in the gardening & outdoor department, I ran upon something that made me smile – the bug zapper.  It makes me smile, because it makes me think of my Grandfather. My Grandfather was a genius who was constantly thinking “outside-the-box,” and most of the time he saw things everybody else missed.  As a farmer, he dealt a lot with bugs and the outdoors.  If there was one thing he didn’t like, it was bugs “in the house.”  He kept a Bug...

Life is Short. Major on the Majors…

Life is Short. Major on the Majors…

I don’t know who actually said this, but as we get older, it’s TOTALLY true.  I haven’t blogged in a while, and it’s not because major emergency or sadness has occurred in my life, rather loved ones and friends to which I am very close.  Already once this year I found myself driving in the dark with a fuzzy monkey and a comic book in a brightly-colored bag headed for the children’s hospital………..when I had a very long to-do list & little sleep. Later, I cancelled a bunch of things to get in the car to spend time with a loved one who needed a break and a laugh.  Recently, I took off work and skipped dinner to visit the hospital, because a dear friend’s dad is dying in the hospital. Why? Because some things...

Glowing Rectangles Give You Popcorn Brain

Glowing Rectangles Give You Popcorn Brain

HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SPRING!  Why are you in front of the computer?  Read this…… & then go do something fun with SOMEONE or some activity….. OUTSIDE…… I am a big fan of technology, otherwise I wouldn’t blog.  But my blog is useless unless people actually get away from the computer & cook a new recipe, make weird stuff, or embark on new adventures! I recently read an article that confirms what I’ve already noticed about a lot of people in my life – especially children.  The subject was technology & the controversy was its ability to change the structure of your brain to something that resembles “popcorn brain.” (CNN article here.) I’ve noticed people not being able to have a conversation that last more than 5 minutes, and the...

Happy Ash Wednesday! Ideas for Lent

Happy Ash Wednesday! Ideas for Lent

Yesterday in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana thousands of people ate, drank, and took being “merry” to a whole different level until the Quarter shut down at midnight. It didn’t just happen in New Orleans – they were selling king cakes at my local grocery store in Tennessee.  Traditionally, people use Fat Tuesday to get “bad habits” out of their system specifically the very habit(s) they plan on giving up for the season of Lent (Feb 22-April 5). I’ve heard of people giving up sweets, caffeine, & junk food, but you could tweak it however you want! You don’t have to do it in preparation for the Holy Week and you don’t have to “give up” something.  You could “start” doing...
