Rabbit Salt Grinder: Ward off Evil On-the-Go!

Rabbit Salt Grinder: Ward off Evil On-the-Go!

A lot of the conversations and stories I recall from my time in Italy include the subject of superstition. What I learned: Basically, if you spill some salt – - Toss some more salt over your left shoulder, because you may have exposed yourself to bad omens. Italians aren’t the only ones that have some issues with salt…. Some Buddhists say you should toss some over your should when you come back home from a funeral, because evil spirits might be hanging on your back. Sumo Wrestlers use it to purify the ring before they compete – a shinto religion practice. In India, a gift of salt can be considered a great honor. The list goes on…. ‘Like to salt your food, have good luck, AND ward off evil spirits? These cute little rabbit-like...

The Drummer’s Salt ‘n’ Pepper Shaker: “The Pump & Grind”

The Drummer’s Salt ‘n’ Pepper Shaker: “The Pump & Grind”

I know a woman that has collected salt & pepper shakers her entire life, and a lot of her collection is on display in the Museum of Salt & Pepper Shakers in Gatlinburg, TN.  (Yes, such a place exists. There’s a sister site in Spain.)  I have a feeling she would be quite bored with this variety.  They have a cool function, but they aren’t shaped like little “his & her” toilets. It impressed me, because I have a lot of Vic Firth Drumsticks, practice pads, and drumheads….. when I researched this product, found out VIC FIRTH has branched out from the percussion world & slapped his name on salt & pepper mills and rolling pins! They are the “Pump & Grind” Salt ‘n’ Pepper shakers from Vic...

Eating Healthier: Make Your Own Dressing Tool

Eating Healthier: Make Your Own Dressing Tool

In a quest to eat healthier, I have added more salads to my repertoire at home.  You’d be surprised how difficult it can be to make a tasty salad that isn’t loaded down with hidden fat.  The other day someone told me they LOVED this black and bleu salad….. but it had 21 grams of fat & was really a piece of steak & a cup or so of bleu cheese…. atop a layer of green lettuce! Trying to do better than that, I headed to the store.  I bought my favorite lettuces.  I love radicchio, boston lettuce, and anything purple….Then I headed to the dressing aisle, and looked at only the oil/vinegar based dressings. I was surprised to see so much sugar and salt! Plus – how do I pick?  What if I get bored with the one I take home...

How to Get You & Your Family to Drink More Water! Flavored Water Bar!

How to Get You & Your Family to Drink More Water! Flavored Water Bar!

Do you need to drink more water?  Do you wish your family (especially soft drink guzzlin’ kids) drank more water?  Do you have a party coming up & you want to serve something unique & healthy that keeps everyone hydrated? Are you responsible for hydrating your kid’s athletic team soon? I once new a man who wanted to make sure his kids were healthy and hydrated, so he installed a water fountain in the house.  During the summer, instead of grabbing a soft drink or whining for a kool-aid, he just pointed down the hall! If you don’t think you can swing a water fountain……Try a water bar!  Or at the very least, make some of these up & keep them handy in the fridge for good, healthy choices! Ideas for Fixin’s: berries, honeydew chunks,...

Redneck Solo Cup Goblet: Unique Ways to Serve Summer Beverages!

Redneck Solo Cup Goblet: Unique Ways to Serve Summer Beverages!

I don’t know if you have seen the “Redneck Wine Glass,” but it’s basically a candlestick holder with a mason jar on top secured with  hot glue, super glue – whatever will make it stick.  I first saw them last year at a music festival being sold by a vendor for about $10.  They would be super cute for a picnic/outdoor gathering. Plus, if you keep the lid handy, guests can keep bugs out of their drinks! Just recently, I came across something similar, but possibly for “Dirt Poor Rednecks.”  It was just a solo cup glued to the top of a candlestick holder with some twine tied in a bow around the base.  It was about $14!  This is hilarious, because those glass candlestick holders can be bought for a $1 at your local dollar...

Unique Gift for Any Occasion: The Gurgle Pot

Unique Gift for Any Occasion: The Gurgle Pot

If you happen to be in the market for a gift to give that is unique & will be something the recipient will never forget (& be sure to think of you every time they use it)- go Gurgle Pot.  The “Gurgle Pot” is a fish-shaped pitcher (mostly used for water) that when tipped for pouring makes a fantastically cheery gurgling sound that puts a smile on your guests’ face every time.   Matt Ellison, the creator of the gurgle pot, started making them after seeing (and hearing) something just like it at a dinner in France.  He’s built a company out of it that produces them in many colors & can ship all over the world! Look around – they might even be in stores in your area. This would be a good gift for: ~Weddings (showers, teas,...
