Pumpkin Apple Spice Vinaigrette

Pumpkin Apple Spice Vinaigrette

When fall gets here, I go into “pumpkin mode,” trying everything that claims to have a pumpkin or pumpkin spice flavor.  Coffee creamer and hot tea are always in my autumnal ritual, but I’ve found pumpkin in tons of different concoctions over the past few years! I have even had pumpkin spice lotion in my bathroom.  Godiva makes Pumpkin Spice truffles that are dusted with cocoa, and pumpkin spice ice cream with Heath mixed in @ my local creamery is a must!  It doesn’t stop there…..Bless his heart – as of yesterday, my dog is eating a new variety of dog food that contains pumpkin & sweet potato! (Nature’s Recipe Dog Food)! This year is no different – - a bottle of Pumpkin Apple Spice Vinaigrette practically...

The Evolution of the Corsage

The Evolution of the Corsage

I went to a wedding recently & was given a beautiful mini calla lily to place on my dress.  I said to the florist, “I am glad I wore this lace top – I won’t have to worry about holes!”  She smiled & pointed out that I actually don’t have a pin – I have a tiny magnet on the back!  Of, course – I took a picture. Having had family who has worked in the florist world,  I bet over half of my family knows how to make a corsage and correctly apply it to an outfit. Now that we live in an age where special events like weddings, religious occasions, etc. are being created by the host in a homemade way, the sky’s the limit when it comes to picking items for the corsage!  This little upgrade has made an enormous...

Do Something Different This July 4th…..

Do Something Different This July 4th…..

If you have been living in a cave the last few weeks without television or internet or human contact – Colorado is burning.  Places all over the U.S. are in the triple-digits & the heat is unbearable in many places.  Tomorrow is the 4th of July, and Americans usually do some of the hottest things on this festive day – fireworks, cookouts, smoking hogs, cooking things over a hot stove, having parties outside……It’s really nuts if you think about it! In some states, officials are banning the use of fireworks.  Some places even are telling folks to SKIP COOKING OUT if they live near a wooded area.  With everything we know about heat strokes & heat exhaustion, why is this even a question?  I know it’s the traditional thing to do – your family...

St. Patrick’s Day & Irish Recipes: Chocolate Stout Irish Stew Recipe!

When St. Patrick’s Day comes around, I usually like to find some time to have some Irish Food & Drink. Usually, the local Irish pubs & restaurants are completely packed.  So I’ve started doing my own thing, and entertaining friends and family without all the fuss.  Last year, I tried my first every Corn Beef & Cabbage recipe, and this year I’ve already tried out something new – so I can pass it along before you make your St. Paddy’s Day plans! It’s an easy recipe for lamb and a refreshing change from the ol’ faithful beef stew recipe! Chocolate Stout Irish Stew 2-3 lbs. already chopped Lamb (for stews) 2 large onions, sliced/slivers 1 pkg baby carrots 2 potatoes (chopped…. Or ½ package frozen southern-style hashbrowns! 2 ½...

Happy Ash Wednesday! Ideas for Lent

Happy Ash Wednesday! Ideas for Lent

Yesterday in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana thousands of people ate, drank, and took being “merry” to a whole different level until the Quarter shut down at midnight. It didn’t just happen in New Orleans – they were selling king cakes at my local grocery store in Tennessee.  Traditionally, people use Fat Tuesday to get “bad habits” out of their system specifically the very habit(s) they plan on giving up for the season of Lent (Feb 22-April 5). I’ve heard of people giving up sweets, caffeine, & junk food, but you could tweak it however you want! You don’t have to do it in preparation for the Holy Week and you don’t have to “give up” something.  You could “start” doing...

Getting Music Together for a Party, Work, Exercise….Whatever!

Getting Music Together for a Party, Work, Exercise….Whatever!

Guess what I got for my birthday this past year?  Every song by every artist….. ever.   I have been blogging about entertaining ideas & each time, I have mentioned “creating” a playlist.  After the last few get-togethers at my house, I realize I need to share my most recent find in the realm of “playlists.”  I also realize – not everybody knows what I’m talking about, and it’s a valuable resource to have! I even prepped myself for an 80s Party this weekend, by teasin’ my hair to Cyndi Lauper! A playlist is a group of songs you select that can be themed (baby songs, love songs) or be completely unrelated – just songs you like!  You can group songs together on your listening device or you can group several CDs from your CD collection. ...
