Affresh: How to Disinfect your Washing Machine!
We don’t think about it, but because our washing machine is exposed to so much moisture & grime from our clothes, all those tiny holes can get build-up and residue inside. After hearing about them in a commercial, I discovered there is such a product that will disinfect the machine. The brand I bought at the store is called “Affresh” & I’d go on the record saying – it works. It’s a tablet that you toss in the machine – Normal Wash – HOT water. (obviously, no clothes…..) Things I learned: 1. Residue can build up if you use the wrong kind of washing detergent. This is not my case – I’m using liquid, name-brand – for all washers. 2. Shocker: It can also build up if you use TOO MUCH...
How to Disinfect and Repair Your Garbage Disposal
I didn’t grow up in a house with a disposal. We threw away trash, had compost piles, etc. so the idea of putting food in the sink was abnormal to me for a while. I have a house with a disposal now, and it has been a love-hate relationship. I have learned some things along the way that might be helpful out there to somebody….. Is it stuck? Get your allen wrenches out – decide which one fits in the hole in the center of your disposal underneath the cylinder (under sink) – & start turnin’! ‘Allen Wrench doesn’t help? Forceps (or the equivalent) & a flashlight……. turn off your breaker before you start diggin’ if you value your fingers. ‘Anal Retentive & Want to disinfect...
Cheap Homemade Car Freshener
I recently went on a road trip & thought I’d buy a “jasmine” car freshener in the shape of a little tree for my car from a sweet lady at the gas station. Mistake. Well, it wasn’t terrible – it just didn’t smell like jasmine, and I was disappointed. It smelled like lotion/soap. Since I have been on a few trips this summer, I decided to give the car a good cleaning out the other day, complete with a vacuum. I wanted to add a scent, but I didn’t have time or money…… so I went to my candle drawer. Somebody gave me a package of melty candle thingies, but didn’t give me the apparatus, therefore they are useless. …… until now! Glade scented oil candles are refillable contraptions. The...
Zora & Flora: How to Care for Carnivorous Plants
Well, this week on June 27th, Rupert (my dog) got 2 sisters! Their names are Zora & Flora. Zora is spunky, spiky, and green. Flora is tall, graceful, and vicious – also green with a hint of magenta. …… Zora & Flora are my new carnivorous plants who have come to dwell in my home, kill all unwelcome bugs, and teach me how to keep a plant alive. Zora is a venus fly trap, and Flora is a pitcher plant. I have decided that this is the best possible person-plant relationship for me, they being dual-purpose, and me giving them names & treating them like people/pets, so as to remember to feed them, unlike all my other plant endeavors. If you’re like me, you go to the greenhouse with these excellent ideas, and then somehow, that...
Give Your Indoor Plants a Massage & Coffee Break!
Indoor plants are on my to-do list this month as I do some spring cleaning, because they clean the air & improve your mood! I am looking forward to this idea, but …..I’m a busy woman….who sometimes forgets to water & feed things that don’t talk – like plants. A while back, a friend of mine gave me something I never about getting for myself – Aquaglobes. They are these magical, fashionable glass blown water chambers that keep your plants from dying when you are on a once-a-year watering schedule like I am. So I gave the globes a try & they really do work, because it gives them the right amount when they need it! Even a person that regularly waters, might be over-watering – so this is the perfect balance. …..But that’s not all...
Homemade Cleaning Supplies: Car Wipes
Is your car messy? Do you practically live out of your car, because life is so busy? Does your pet or family hang out in your car when you’re on the road? If so – - your car totally counts as one of your “abodes!” Every now & then I get the notion to clean out the car, vacuum it, etc. I have used Armor-All, Clorox Wipes, Murphy’s Oil Soap, and other things – but recently I accidentally discovered something that does a noticeably great job & is CHEAP! I could have sworn I had one of those products last night – but I was mistaken! So I brainstormed….. I needed something to cut grease, disinfect, smell good, and not ruin my surfaces. I even used this on the window’s where my puppy likes to...
