Keep Calm And….. Pie?

Keep Calm And….. Pie?

I haven’t blogged in a while, and that fact is the basis of today’s blog.  As I type, I am seeing a reflection in the computer screen, and there are lovely little lines between my eyes on my forehead…… because I am thinking.  It’s my thinking face.  I learned that thinking face from my Momma & my Granny.  I am smoothing it out now & trying to consciously get rid of them physically & emotionally – - – I must have a lot on my mind. This happens, doesn’t it?  Especially to women, I think.  (SEE!  THE THINKING!)  Thinking is obviously not a bad thing,  but I think it’s the “over-analyzing” that’s toxic.  I think the very definition of “Over-analyzing” is exactly...

“Ruler Top” Table (Ways to Spruce up a Table!)

Do you have a piece of furniture that has seen better days?  Have you recently come into a large amount of old rulers?   PERFECT! A quick way to make a funky surface on a desk, night stand, end table, kitchen table, kitchen island……. anything with a surface that needs a little TLC! What You Need: A bunch of rulers – all kinds, all colors – preferable wooden without the metal edge.  If you want to set dishes or things that would need a flatter surface – You’ll need to get flat rulers – not rulers with a slant on the edge. Fruit Flies & The Things We Do to Trick Them

Fruit Flies & The Things We Do to Trick Them

It’s actually quite hilarious.  If you are looking for an answer to getting rid of fruit flies – - – the first thing you do is put up all food AND put away unrefrigerated food that might be going bad (bananas, avocados, tomatoes….)  That usually fixes it in a couple of days. HOWEVER, we as humans, myself included, seem to take joy in crafty projects that might trick these “highly intelligent” creatures. Do they work? ….. You can try them.  I did & I killed a bunch of bugs. Check out the pics & results below!   Three Options I have tried: 1. Outsource Your Troubles: Carnivorous Plants  Check this out: Since I didn’t “catch them in the act”…. I don’t really know if they got rid...

Spruce Up Your Furniture By Making It Look Older Than It Already Is!

Spruce Up Your Furniture By Making It Look Older Than It Already Is!

Seriously, isn’t that a crazy idea?  It’s funny how we don’t do that to our face or bodies.  :)  The worn look is totally in, and it can be achieved quite easily.  It works to our advantage, too! This trick can even update un-stylish, worn out, or damaged furniture that doesn’t have much to offer in the way of uniqueness. What you need: Optional: Brown Paint (If you already have brown furniture, you won’t need this.  Also, it doesn’t matter what color this is.  It doesn’t have to be brown.  Black is nice, too. This is the color that is going to show through the top coat – that looks like the scuffs/old accents. Sandpaper:  Grade of 300+ ….. or be creative. Do you want more scuffs & marks?   Go for...

Affresh: How to Disinfect your Washing Machine!

Affresh: How to Disinfect your Washing Machine!

We don’t think about it, but because our washing machine is exposed to so much moisture & grime from our clothes, all those tiny holes can get build-up and residue inside.  After hearing about them in a commercial, I discovered there is such a product that will disinfect the machine.  The brand I bought at the store is called “Affresh” & I’d go on the record saying – it works. It’s a tablet that you toss in the machine – Normal Wash – HOT water. (obviously, no clothes…..) Things I learned: 1. Residue can build up if you use the wrong kind of washing detergent. This is not my case – I’m using liquid, name-brand – for all washers. 2. Shocker: It can also build up if you use TOO MUCH...

Shelving Options for the Non-Handy

Shelving Options for the Non-Handy

Yes, you can buy shelves from IKEA.  Yes, it’s a good idea to own a “level.”  Yes, the level is only useful if you know where it is right now. Yes, it usually takes two people to hang shelves…… No, they don’t have to be hung straight.  No, they don’t have to be grouped in identical sets.  No, they don’t even have to be made of traditional shelving material.  No, …. they don’t have to come in a box from IKEA or a store like it! I happened upon this interesting organizational feature while shopping.  Up close, these are just bits & pieces leftover from various carpentry projects that have been painted a uniting sea green hue.  The person had a hammer & some nails – no screws involved....
