Create More Work Space & Storage in Your Kitchen: Microwave Cart!

Create More Work Space & Storage in Your Kitchen: Microwave Cart!

If your kitchen is like mine, it could always use more storage and is constantly in need of de-cluttering as a result.  I’m also a big fan of open spaces – not a lot of cluttering furniture/knick-knacks.  I recently was able to fix a few of those things without spending a dime.  If you don’t have one of these, then the purchase is still very cheap! An old microwave cart…..I have a stove now that has the microwave & ventilation system on top.  I don’t need my old microwave or the cart it was sitting on, but I have kept both just in case.  In fact, there was a time when I did some glorious cooking with tag-teaming microwaves until I made this change! I simply stored the other microwave away, exposing the beauty & possibility of this cart, and...

Glowing Rectangles Give You Popcorn Brain

Glowing Rectangles Give You Popcorn Brain

HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SPRING!  Why are you in front of the computer?  Read this…… & then go do something fun with SOMEONE or some activity….. OUTSIDE…… I am a big fan of technology, otherwise I wouldn’t blog.  But my blog is useless unless people actually get away from the computer & cook a new recipe, make weird stuff, or embark on new adventures! I recently read an article that confirms what I’ve already noticed about a lot of people in my life – especially children.  The subject was technology & the controversy was its ability to change the structure of your brain to something that resembles “popcorn brain.” (CNN article here.) I’ve noticed people not being able to have a conversation that last more than 5 minutes, and the...

A Scandalously Irish Reuben Sandwich Recipe

A Scandalously Irish Reuben Sandwich Recipe

My plans this weekend included celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with a classic Reuben Sandwich and some sort of Irish-inspired drink. Of course I donned green in order to evade pinching, but that was about all that was “Truly Irish” in my plans.  It turns out the Reuben isn’t Irish, & Black & Tan drinks are offensive!  We did have some successes, though, and I’d like to share them today before next year’s St. Paddy’s Day rolls around! THE FAILURES…… The Reuben is reported to come from possibly 2 origins – a Lithuanian-born man from Nebraska  named Reuben Kulakofsky  OR a German-born delicatessen owner in New York named Arnold Reuben. The original recipes aren’t made with “Thousand Island Dressing”…. They’re made with...

Touchscreen Devices: Why is My Thumb Hurting?

Touchscreen Devices: Why is My Thumb Hurting?

If you are an avid & consistent touchscreen phone or listening device user, you might consider limiting your daily time on your device.  All too quickly, you may notice you have some slight discomfort in your thumb. I looked it up & some folks are calling it  “Iphone Thumb” or “Blackberry Thumb”.  This is similar to “Skier’s Thumb” – basically, a thumb condition created by continual overuse of a specific muscles.  Why blog about this?  Well…. I’ve had something similar happen on five occasions.   Disclaimer: I am not a doctor.  If you have my same problem – look it up – there are a lot of articles about this rapidly growing circumstance! 1.  I was hooked to a golfing video game one snowy Christmas & my thumb...

Hot Sauce Recipes: A Sri Lankan Dip with Sriracha!

Hot Sauce Recipes: A Sri Lankan Dip with Sriracha!

There’s a bottle of bright, fire engine red stuff on almost every Asian restaurant table that looks lethal and boasts that it is “naturally colored.”    It’s a Thai hot sauce called “Sriracha” donning a large rooster on the side.  It’s quite alarming to the tongue, but has a lot of uses – much like our beloved Texas Pete or Frank’s Hot Sauce.  I recently used it in my Japanese dinner party to fashion a homemade spicy tuna roll, and just two weeks ago it showed up on a my table inside a crawfish bar in Louisiana!  It has a great taste & can add just the right amount of spice to your dishes!  I used this as an appetizer to an Asian Meal last week.  Very interesting taste!   Sri Lankan Dip 1 cup...
